I have spent much of today trying to confirm the various formats for the new Bob Dylan album, “Tempest”. Unfortunately, Sony UK were as much in the dark as we were. However, I have now seen a Press Release made by Sony, Germany, which covers most aspects of the album. There will be:–

 
1) A “standard” CD jewel case release.

2) A “deluxe” CD release.*

3) A double vinyl LP release.*

4) iTunes release.

 
*The “deluxe” CD release will contain no extra music, but will contain more paper, i.e. a deluxe booklet of some sort.

 
*The double LP release will be on 180gm virgin vinyl and the package will contain a CD

There was exciting news this morning about the release on September 10 of a new Bob Dylan album, which if you haven't seen the official announcement is called Tempest. There was much talk of the record a few weeks ago, backstage at the Hop Farm Festival, where one or two people rather teasingly inferred they had heard it, or knew someone who had.
This could easily have been a lot of old bluff, of course, as until this morning the album didn't officially exist. But if what we managed to glean about it (via red hot pliers, socks full of sand used as coshes, the kind of treatment that loosens tongues) is even half-way true, Tempest sounds like it may turn out be Dylan's best album since at least Time Out Of Mind, a late-career peak, anyway, and maybe even better than that.

Needless to say, as soon as we are able, we'll be bringing you more news on the album, including a track listing when we have one, and not long after that, I hope, details of what it actually sounds like.

Tempest var tidigare en seglingsklass i OS, och alltså namnet på en båt. Men den är förstås inte i samma storlek som Titanic...
John Albrechtson och Ingvar Hansson tog för övrigt guld i den klassen vid OS 1976.

Vad gäller olika datum är det rätt enkelt. I USA släpps skivor alltid på tisdagar, alltså sker det 11 september där. I andra länder sker det på andra datum. Så är det alltid. 10 september är datumet i t ex Storbritannien.

Förresten, vad är "releasas" (i trådens titel) för ord? Framstår som en fullständigt onödig anglicism. På svenska har vi ju redan t ex "släpps" och "ges ut".

Eftersom vi redan diskuterat skivan och låten om Titanic i annan tråd, tog jag mig friheten att slå ihop trådarna "Ny skiva på gång" och "Tempest blir namnet på Dylans nya som releasas den 11 september 2012" och samtidigt korta ned trådnamnet något.

Det första jag tänkte på var Maria, och det är väl inte alls otroligt att det är så det är tänkt att uppfattas heller. Och twisten blir ju då i form av den skulptur på omslaget det egentligen rör sig om, en i själva verket ganska erotisk skapelse, raka motsatsen till Marias obefläckade (även om alla nu inte håller med om det förstås) tillvaro. Summa summarum, omslaget spelar sannolikt på att vi lever i synnerligen syndfulla tider, där till och med det obefläckade ska fläckas ner. Undergången är nära förestående.

Edit: Alternativt ironiserar Bob över ovanstående världstolkning, och huruvida så är fallet lär väl bli mer klart när man hört hela skivan.
