"On February 4 of next year, Columbia Legacy will release “From His Head To His Heart To His Hands,” a 3 CD/1 DVD retrospective of the musician’s career, wth material ranging from early 1964 demos to his final live performance with Dylan in 1980, including many previously unreleased tracks. The liner notes were written by Mojo magazine’s Michael Simmons, who also recently did the same job for Dylan's “Another Self Portrait.”
 
The set was “produced and curated” by Bloomfield’s friend and collaborator, Al Kooper. The music is divided into three categories: “Roots,” “Jams,” and “Last Licks,” with an additional DVD documentary included, titled “Sweet Blues: A Film About Michael Bloomfield,” directed by Bob Sarles.
 
Of particular interest to Dylan fans are three previously unreleased versions of the following recordings:
 •“Like A Rolling Stone”: A 6 minute and 35 second version mixed without vocals, to highlight Bloomfield’s guitar. (1965)
 •“Tombstone Blues”: Featuring Bloomfield's blistering guitar platying. plus backing vocals by the Chambers Brothers, a reportedly different version than the one included on the “No Direction Home” volume of the Bootleg Series. (1965)
 •Dylan’s spoken introduction, followed by “The Groom’s Still Waiting at the Altar,” live at the Fox Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. (November 15, 1980)
 
Below is what Dylan said that night at the Warfueld, according to Bjorner. Not sure how much will be included:
•“Thank you! Thank you. All right, I was playing a club in Chicago and I guess it was about 1959 or 1960 and I was sitting ...., I was sitting in the restaurant. I think it was probably across the street or maybe it was in front of the club, I'm not sure. But a guy came down and said that he played the guitar. So he had his guitar with him and he began to play. I said, “Well, what can you play? He played all kinds of things, I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of them. Does Big Bill Broonzy ring a bell? Or Sonny Boy Williamson and that type of thing. Anyway, he just played circles around anything I could play and I always remembered that. Anyway, we were back in New York, I think it was 1963 or 1964 (sic) and I needed a guitar player on a session there I was doing. And I called up, I did remember his name and he came in and recorded an album, at that time he was working in a Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Anyway, he played with me on the record and I think we played some other dates. I haven't seen him too much since then. Anyway, he played on “Like A Rolling Stone” and he's here tonight. Give him a hand, Michael Bloomfield!” (Bloomfield then joins Dylan for“Like A Rolling Stone.”) “Michael Bloomfield! Yeah, go see him if he’s playing around town!”
 •“Thank you. Here’s a new song here, so ..., if Michael’s still out there, you wanna play on this? Where are you sitting Michael? Anyway, this one’s called “Groom’ss Still Waiting At The Altar. Can't seem to find Mike so we're gonna start anyway.”. (Dylan plays “The Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar,” with Bloomfield joining in”) “Michael Bloomfield! All right!”
